Project facilitator and technician for Tjanpi Desert Weavers.

A group of artists from Amata community in the APY lands made these works as a homage to the beloved motorcars of the desert. The low-riding Holden Commodore, hardy Toyota Troopy, robust Holden Rodeo Ute, and the NPY Hilux.

The works were made by weaving grass and raffia onto a simple wire frame, the attaching found metal elements from the Amata tip.

Tjanpi Desert Weavers is a social enterprise of the Ngaanyatjarra Pitjantjatjara Yankunytjatjara Women’s Council that enables women living in the remote Central and Western Desert to earn an income from fibre art. Tjanpi represents over 400 Aboriginal women artists from 26 remote communities across WA, SA and the NT.
